Perched on branches. The Eastern Bluebird is a favorite of backyard birders! They live in open country around trees, but with little understory and sparse ground cover. Increasingly, they’re becoming more common in backyards. Since one of their main food sources is ground dwelling insects, avoiding pesticide use on your lawn is vital. Pesticides indiscriminately kills all insects—some good, some bad, but all a source of food for birds. Bluebirds love mealworms and I’ve found they love the chipped sunflower seeds in my birdfeeder!
